Many educational initiatives were realized this year. "Law 101: Legal Guide for the Forensic Expert", an online course designed o inform non-lawyers about policies, procedures, and protocols when serving as an expert witness and the ramifications and responsibilities therein is almost complete. Two deliverables will be produced: an interactive web-based program and a text-based primer. The web-based program is housed on DNA.gov and soon the public will have access to it.

Additionally, NCSTL conducted three Capital Litigation trainings in 2010. There will be two more Capital Litigation training workshops offered in 2011. One training will be for defense attorneys only from June 6-8, 2011 in Plano, TX at CAILAW. The other training will be for prosecutors only and will be held from August 29-31, 2011 in Tampa, FL at the Marriott. All practicing attorneys from capital states are eligible to apply. Applications will be available in late January/early February on NCSTL's website and national organizations for prosecutors and defense will also be apprised.

There are many other workshops and trainings being offered this year including the delivery of web-based SANE-SART (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner-Sexual Assault Response Team) forensic training. NCSTL and the SANE-SART Examiner Resource Service are collaborating to deliver this important web-based forensic training. A minimum of 1,000 medical professionals, victim service providers, forensic science practitioners, professionals in the legal and criminal justice systems, and others involved in treating victims of sexual assault will receive this training.

NCSTL provides continuing education credits at its trainings.
